ABOYNE – Groves Memorial Community Hospital has begun accepting patients from GTA hospitals today as COVID-19 patients fill ICUs in Ontario.
Groves also plans to accept patients from elsewhere in the region and province.
In an email, to The Grand at 101 Alison Armstrong Manager of Communications at Wellington Health Care Alliance says “We have increased our bed capacity by 24 giving us a total bed capacity of 69.”
The hospital will be taking non-ICU patients from hospitals with overrun ICUs, as Groves Hospital does not have an intensive care unit.
Armstrong says “We have also reviewed our staffing and skill mix to support the demand that is currently being placed on all Ontario hospitals.”
She adds that All non-urgent surgeries and procedures are cancelled until further notice. “We are doing all emergent surgeries such as c-sections, emergency appendectomies, etc. At this time, ambulatory care and oncology services continue to run as normal as well as our diagnostic imaging services such as mammograms. Our emergency and obstetric programs continue to run 24-7.”
