SALEM – A development with almost 300 units included is now on pause in Centre Wellington. Cachet Developments were looking to build a 286-unit mixed use development near Salem Public School before the reversal of OPA 119 urban boundary expansions.
Now, Mayor Shawn Watters has sent a letter to the province in which he requested the reversal of all boundary expansions in the Fergus and Elora-Salem urban centres.
Cachet is hoping to see the township make requests to have the development move forward, while no other developments have progressed far enough to warrant a request.

In response to Cachet’s delegation at Monday’s Centre Wellington council meeting, councillor Lisa MacDonald said there is no major rush on this, given the amount of projects she’s already seen since joining council.
MacDonald also pointed out to Matthew Cory, delegating to council, that residents who have submitted comments to Cachet have yet to hear back. Cory reassured staff requests will be responded to within the week.
Cory also stated the location isn’t the only appealing aspect of the development.
The delegation was received for information.
